Schottky Pumpkin Ale is back!

Nostalgia is a a powerful thing -- A key to the past, bringing back old memories and reminding you of all things good. The flavor of grandma's homemade pumpkin pie in it's most perfect form, making you want to cuddle up next to a fire, wrapped in a blanket while grandma serves you the first slice...

Well, it's still hot as heck still in Minnesota, but it is September and that means fall is right around the corner whether we're ready or not!

This Wednesday at 4PM we will be tapping one of our most popular seasonals -- Schottky Pumpkin Ale. This pumpkin beer is no ordinary pumpkin beer. It's made with REAL pumpkin with just the right blend of grandma's pumpkin pie spices to take you back to that special place.

The brainchild of Co-founder Jake Johnson, whose intent was to capture the deliciousness of pumpkin pie in beer form, Schottky Pumpkin Ale took many iterations (about 5) while experimenting in Jeff's basement to get the balance just right between the pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices and beer. All that brewing in the basement sure paid off!

During the basement years we experimented around with different ways to use the pumpkin in the recipe as well as which form of pumpkin. The first batch was brewed in fall and we used a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch which we cut up and roasted in an oven for a long time before then putting it into the mash. For the next batches we decided - for consistency and to meet the demands of the market - to switch to using pumpkin puree. It's a lot of hard work, but it sure does pay off.

Slainte!
