BEERTENDER

Tin Whiskers is looking for 2 PART-TIME Beertenders to join our team. We are seeking hardworking, customer focused, flexible staff, who are capable of problem solving. Beertenders should be passionate about learning, knowledgeable about beer and brewing, and excited to be a part of the growing craft beer industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exceed customer expectations and cultivate positive, lasting relationships with customers that reinforces the brand position and strategy.
  • Assume 100% responsibility for a providing guests with a quality experience; express gratitude and invite them to return
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and sustainable taproom environment
  • Explain, describe, and recommend Tin Whiskers beers to guests, including beer pairings to accompany food from local restaurants
  • Explain and talk about the story and philosophy of Tin Whiskers
  • Be able to explain basics of the brewing process to guests
  • Learn the names of and personally recognize regular guests
  • Notify Taproom Manager any time a guest is not 100% satisfied with their experience
  • Fulfill all beverage and external food orders from guests accurately using a point-of-sale system (POS); pour beer from tap, cask, or beer engine; provide beverages to fulfill orders
  • Accept guest payment, process credit card charges and make change (if necessary)
  • Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the taproom throughout the shift, including counters, sinks, shelves, storage areas, and clearing glassware from the bar and tables
  • Wash and sterilize glassware, rinsing all beer glasses prior to pouring beer into them, and complete all additional shift related sanitization tasks as required
  • Routinely check the cleanliness of the bathrooms and provide restocking of supplies and cleaning as needed
  • Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to Taproom Manager or President
  • Sell merchandise and manage inventory; assist in taking inventory and restocking items as needed
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings
  • Bring your own suggestions and ideas for improvement. Tin Whiskers is a very collaborative environment

 

Qualifications:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Available to work a minimum of 2-3 shifts a week
  • Possess a positive attitude and work well with other team members in a collaborative environment
  • Be available to work as early as 2pm and as late as 1am Wednesday-Friday and 12pm-1am on Saturdays
  • Must have ability to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system (POS)
  • Be able to properly pour beer
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours)
  • Be able to work in a fast paced taproom environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Homebrewing experience, knowledge of the brewing process, or in-depth knowledge of craft beer
  • Previous bartending or taproom experience
  • Previous experience with using POS systems
  • Certified as a Beer Server, Cicerone, or Master Cicerone
  • Secondary skills such as book keeping or lab experience in a brewery or winery

head Brewer

Summary of Head Brewer Position:
The most qualified candidate will become part the Tin Whiskers Brewing Company team and will report directly to the President.  Brewers participate in all facets of brewhouse and cellar operations and including but not limited to raw material ordering, wort production, yeast management, record keeping, inventory management, QC, and fermentation management.

Job Requirements:

·         Degree in Fermentation Science or completion of a brewing-science program

·         5 years or more experience in a production brewery or brewpub

·         Flexible work schedule: day, night shifts

·         Strong communication, planning, problem solving, and organizational skills

·         MN Boiler Operator License or able to get one in 60days from hire

·         Strong leader, committed to pursuing further education, a passion for details, hard working, determined, efficient and responsible.

Duties and Responsibilities :
 

·         Production:

o    Wort production, scheduling and forecasting ~220BBLS/month

o    Work with President on scheduling of batches

o    Ordering of raw material to ensure it arrives to maintain production schedule (forecasting)

o    Maintain paperwork in an accurate and timely manner in Ekos.

o    Design new beers and brewing a series of pilot batches to prove out concept

o    Leads seasonal and one off beer brand recipe design and deviations.

o    Works closely with restaurants and bars on custom beers.

o     Packaging: keg and 16oz can packaging using mobile canner

o    Fermentation management with doing daily checks of gravity and sensory panels after primary fermentation is completed.

o    Experience running a centrifuge

o    Manage the barrel program.

o    Firkin filling adhering to CAMRA definitions

o    Actively find improvements for the beer and our processes and write up change orders to present to the President for approval

o    Adhere to Safe Practices and lead by example.

o    Spent grain removal from property

o     

·         Quality:

o    Yeast cell counting and viability testing

o    C02 and DO testing

o    Perform quality control and quality assurance testing (includes sensory panels, measurements, data collection)

o    Help lead quality programs including taste panels, lab sampling, brewing and fermentation logs

o     

·         Management:

o    Provide work direction and supervision for brewers and assistant brewers.

o    Do annual performance reviews for staff that report to Head Brewer

o    Hire and train staff that report to Head Brewer

o    Cooler management/organization

o    Inventory management and controls

o    Design and enforce brewery safety program

o    Write and maintain SOPs for the brewery

o    Update brewery SDS

o    Communication and coordination with marketing department for beer releases and events.

o    Brewery equipment maintenance program

o    Communicate efficiently with all staff and management.

o    Cooperage maintenance

o    Keeping the brewery clean and organized at all times

o    Attending beer festivals and events

 

Skills - Technical:

Proficient in the following aspects of brewing technology:

·         wort production and processes, recipe design,

·         keg, bottle, can packaging processes, keg washing,

·         operation of Centrifuge,

·         yeast propagation and management,

·         brewery production management,

·         training in off flavor detection and prevention,

·         boiler operation,

·         brewery CIP,

·         QA/QC compliant,

·         draught line installation, draught line cleaning,

·         working knowledge of HVAC plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems,

·         Ekos brewery software,

·         barrel filling,

·         and cooperage maintenance.

 

Skills – Admin/Soft

·         Able to train and teach staff

·         Microsoft Office Suite

·         Able to develop and maintain SOPs

·         Strong leader

·         Report on status and any issues.

·         Problem solver that digs in to find root cause of issues.

 

Abilities:
 

·         Must be able to lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs occasionally

·         Must be able to stand for 8-12 hours per day

·         Must be competent with MS Office

·         Able to learn and effectively use Ekos, our brewery management software

·         Have had sensory training and participated on sensory panels

·         Must have excellent time management

·         Must be able to enjoy making great high quality beer
